New Users!

You might wonder what the hell there is to do on a BBS, or why anyone would even run one when we've got the internet...

Basically, games. The staff at EMPulse Records grew up playing games on BBS's. From 1993 to about 1999, most of us played a game called MajorMUD religiously! Think World of Warcraft before anyone put any thought in to graphics cards and a fast connection was anything better than a 2400 baud modem. We refuse to stop playing a game thats as awesome as MajorMUD. Sort of like playing the original Super Mario Bros or the gold cart Zelda.

So where do you start?

First, download mTelnnet from above and install it. (directions are in a notepad file)

Connect and sign up. IMPORTANT! The BBS will ask if the word 'ANSI' is blinking. mTelnet, as awesomely failthfull as it renders old ANSI, doesn't allow for flashing. Select YES anyway. Please fill out all the information. (we like to know where people are calling in from! It's neato.

Start messing around. MajorMUD is on the main menu. The 'scripting allowed' version is for die hard old school players that use special programs to automatically fight and kill stuff in order to gain expierence quicker. Most of us here at EMPulse play on the origional 'hand played' board, where specialized MajorMUD client programs are not allowed to be used. Please respect the rules. I recommend, after creating your character, to type, without the quotes, 'SET PALLETTE 3'. This will slightly alter the colors displayed. Type 'WHO' to see who else is online. 'TOP 100' displays a list of the players ranked by exp points. 'GOS' will broadcast a message to all players currently logged in. i.e. 'GOS Hello!' You can send a private message by telepathing. For instance, '/noonien you suck'

Almost every command in the game can be abbreviated. Instead of 'GET 1 GOLD', you can type 'g g', for get gold. 'ATTACK ACID SLIME' can be abbreviated 'a a' and so on. If you're brand new to the game, the idea is to find a shop (move by typing n,s,e,w) that will sell you some cheap armour and weapons and begin killing stuff to gain expierence. Standard fair.
